Philippians 3:12:Not that I have already obtained it [this goal of being Christlike] or have already been made perfect, but I actively press on so that I may take hold of that [perfection] for which Christ Jesus took hold of me and made me His own.
Father Lord, I want to be as perfect as you are
Let me give my left cheek when being slapped the right one
Let me give my coat as well if I am sued for the shirt
Let me do two miles if am forced to do one mile
Let me give when asked for something
Let me lend too
Let me love my enemies and pray for those who persecute me
Let me love those who do not love me
Let me speak even to those who are not my friends
‘Cause my desire is to be PERFECT as you daddy in heaven.
( Matt 5:38-48 )
Ok, I can imagine some reactions on this;…..but I really mean it. Isn’t this what it means to keep our eyes fixed on Christ, the leader and perfecter of our faith? Many are the times we read scriptures and we console ourselves that they weren’t meant for us. Probably because we imagine, only a fool or a coward would give the other cheek , give their shirt as well as their coat, love those who don’t reciprocate their love, speak to those who are not their friends, love their enemies and pray for those who persecute them….and the list goes on.Being the ‘coward’ or ‘fool’ for Jesus Christ is what I strive to be everyday. Can you? Do you?
